About Terry Puffer

Welcome to my Five Star Real Estate page to learn more about me and how I got here. When I purchased my first home back in 2010 and went from a renter to home owner, it was pretty empowering. When you make that switch to begin investing in your own property and future you gain quite a bit of control. With this initial step I really began to develop a love for the real estate market as I found it better than most other investments at the time. This first home was just on the other side of the bridge on Henry St in Norton Shores and was built around the 1940’s by the original owner. We are talking about green carpet in the kitchen and furry blue carpet in the bathrooms with the retro 70’s style paneling and plaster throughout. After living in this home and remodeling most of it my wife (Joy) and I sold it in July of 2016 and prepared for another adventure. In 2015 before we sold our home we purchased a 26,000 sq ft building in Muskegon known to many as Highland Park Dairy and where the most recent business Barteau Upholstery operated for many years. My wife and I had remodeled the building completely to now create 6 commercial units that we rent out to local businesses. In June of 2016 I went to Joy and asked her if she would entertain living in the commercial building if we remodeled it to look like a home. She certainly had her doubts and gave me quite the funny look, however she trusted in my abilities to make a section of the building a home and reluctantly gave me the green light. Our home actually sold very quickly in the 2016 market so now we found ourselves living in a camper that Joy’s Father and Mother provided on one of our friends property. This camper had electrical and propane but was limited on potable water. So now it is my wife, daughter, dog, and cat living in a 500 sq ft camper with limited potable water. Daily we drove from the camper (about 20min) to our building to shower and get ready for the day. This ended up lasting 11 months from start to finish. Talk about a patient family…. ? In the new commercial remodel we ended up repurposing many of the existing doors, brick, metal, and structural brilliance of the time period. We now have been in our home for about 2 years and couldn’t be happier with what we have created and the experience it has given us in project management, construction, and the market in general. From 2016 on we have worked with several friends on remodeling their homes and selling them. We also have invested in an additional commercial property to rehab and sell as well as a new residential home we are currently remodeling to sell. Keep in mind that during all of this I built a 8 million dollar revenue business in just three years as my full time gig at the time. Now with me wanting to follow my passion for real estate and do it full time I am working with Five Star Real Estate and developing my own Real Estate Investing company, Lakeside Properties Group LLC. So with all that being said, I am well versed in real estate and have the passion and ability to assist with anything you may need.
